ya, i did all of those things u were saying. however if you actually think about it, doubling up does nothing but provide more material to press on. it does not increase strength, however it just feels better to do this. my washers are fairly large and my side plates have metal inserts in them so it presses on the washers with a good solid contact. my strap is bolted between my number plate and the seat tabs.
