Really, when you leave a jump, you usually don't want to be high up in a gear. I always shift up a gear. Obviously not always possible but try to. The slower the tire is spinning when you leave the ramp, the more effect a quick burst of throttle will be in the air. Just be careful, it can be very powerful. I prefer to control the bike with my body. I barely ever touch the gas or brake, unless it is to save a super violent jump. As far as wheelies, that point where you are about to loop out is where you want to be always. How do those 4th and 5th gear crashes treat ya? LOL, I have never lost a wheelie going that fast. Usually once you are up in higher gears they don't have as much effect on causing the bike to loop out. Do you sit or stand usually?
