| Using the clutch is much more controlled though. I would recommend it. Really, you should work on standing. It is much more controllable. Your shifting technique is perfectly fine for wheelies, that is how it is done. My personal technique is standing. I will idle along in 3rd gear usually and just blip the throttle while just pulling up a bit. However, I have a CRF450R so wheelies are easy to get up. You would think that a bigger bike would be harder to control but it is so easy and you can ride wheelies on this bike until you run out of room. Hey, I'm not a big guy either, 130lbs but I take whatever it throws at me. Like I said, try standing or try clutching out a little more gently. It just takes practice but it sounds like you have gotten pretty far. And of course we all crash. I have personally watched my rear fender fold up to my seat and still be fine. The biggest part I have ever broken is a brake lever.
