you will need a better bike no matter what your racing. your ama or whatever and district cards will total out to be some where around 60-70 dollars depending on how they do it over there. get a chest protector helemt pants and things of that sort. buy stuff thats on sale. stock up on air filters/oil. i usually have 5-10 runnin around my house that are brand new. seat time seat time seat time. ride as much as you can and keep up on maintance or you will get f'd in the A on down the road. dont expect to do good your first few races. its just not going to happen if there is actually competition there, keep your head up and keep pushin. good luck!
