Your right it doesn't effect the racers but the manufactures sell mostly to the public so they do have emission standards to follow. NASCAR is totally different because you can't go to the dealer and but a NASCAR or anything remotely close to it. Boats and jet ski's are getting more and more strict as well. Notice they don't have nearly as many 2 stroke engine in skis anymore like they used to. DOT has overlooked watersports vehicles for a while but they are starting to get more strict on them.

except for the machines like the wr250x, and crf230L, which are built exactly like their F relatives

they are enduro bikes, not dirtbikes, and they do have to meet DOT regulations because they arent built for closed course racing only

thats what i mean, i may be wrong, but i dont think there is any engine difference between them and the F's, which would tell you the F's meet the standards

But the manufacutres still have to meet certain specifications even in off-road only bikes. And even if they only have a few restictions now the future holds many more. They usuually have an overall goal for their whole line-up and the two-strokes kill the average.

there are no restrictions on how their closed course only bikes are made. emmisions are no reason that manufactuers arent producing 2 strokes. that is just an excuse to stop making them that is made up

As I said in my previous post some of the regulations are an overall average for the whole line (off-road, enduro. sport bike and touring included) but the 2 stroke brings the whole average down so it makes it hard for them to keep producing the two-stroke.

It is the same as car companies having to meet an average fuel economy rating for their complete line. Chevrolet has already said that the newest Crovett (ZR1) could be the last time they make such a high performance car for a while becasue it kills their overall average.

Government regulations are the main reason that the two-stroke is dying. They were threatening to make all on-road motorcycles pass emissions years ago. If that ever goes into effect it will be the end of the 2-stroke.

what do on road bikes have to do with dirtbike emmisions? 2 strokes arent on the road anymore becasue they havent met road emmsions since the 80s. but that is only road legal machines. not closed course only bikes
