In response to why the pros ride 4 cycles: if the competition was that close and I could have an extra 4 hp and a couple 10ths of a second a lap I'd take it. As for why the 4s rev higher, the fresh intake charge that is sucked out into the exhaust has to stop and change dirrection back into the cylinder before the piston closes the port by a sonic wave coming from the back of the expansion chamber in the 2 cycle and there is a speed limit to it. Thats the simplified version, I dont want to write a tech journal. Actually I'm a little sore, I found out what happens when a wind gust hits you from the side on a long floater when you're not prepared for it today. Oh, since I will never race in a pro class, I'm sticking with a 2.

thats rough, about your jump. and ya i understand how 2's work and how their pipes work, i have made a few custom 2 stroke pipes. welding and cutting out all those curves is real fun. i had a 2 and i liked it, but i like my 4 and the bottom end power. for example, it can sound like it is really bogging down like maybe im doing 10mph in 3rd while going up a hill. i can twist the throttle and throw the front end into the air and grab infinite power. thats why i like my 4.

I prefer to ride 4s over my 2 i have right now. I miss my yzf400 but i will have one again someday. Some nice things about my 250 is it feels smaller which it is and its always nice not having to pick up such a beast when you crash.

A lot of the old school guys i know will swear up and down by the two, me? I like two strokes but also believe they are a dying breed and that 4 strokes are the future of this sport. Some of the preferences can be answered by that persons riding style and what they feel comfortable on. Not all two strokes have their power laid out in the style of a modern 2 stroke race bike, for example the kdx series and the old yamaha it's. The think about a 2 stroke is that they are lighter and easier to maintain. It may only be a 8 pound diffrence but you can feel it when picking your bike up after a fall after running hard for a while, and you can really feel it when your restarting the bike. It just comes down to what you prefer and what your used to i guess.

ya, it is really rider pref. i dont care if you ride a 2 or 4 ill still not hesitate to ride with you. my buddy rides an rm125. i just really enjoy when people say 2 strokes are more powerful than 4 strokes, but they dont have any evidence to show us.

I never fully appreciated the benefits of a 4 stroke untill I got on one and rode it. There is no way that you can say a 2 stroke has more power than a 4 (equally equipped - rider and parts). Yes they are heavier so you have to slow down a touch more in corners but once that bike is set you just twist and go with no hesitation. The other huge benefit of a 4 stroke is power anywhere anytime. I don't care if you are lugging that thing down it top gear or spinning it out in first there is always power to be made. Now I know that there are a lot of track riders out there so this may not apply to everyone but being more of a trail rider myself when it comes to hill climbs there are no 2 ways about it 4 stroke hands down. Now I know that 2 strokes have their advantages as well but I think that they (Factory) have gotten just about all they can out of them and unfortunately the days are numbered. You will always have hardocre 2 guys and 4 guys so no disrespect to anyone but I may never own a 2 stroke again.
