Mineral oils tend to include wax impurities which coagulate at lower temperatures. A typical 10W-30 oil remains liquid at -50 °C (-58 °F) Better high temperature performance. Synthetic oils have few low molecular weight hydrocarbons which evaporate at high temperatures. Higher purity Decreased oil consumption Reduced friction and engine wear Improved fuel consumption through better engine lubrication Resistance to oil sludge problems Crude oil doesn't have to be used for the production of the lubricants Some synthetic motor oil producers offer extended intervals between oil changes (extended drain intervals) Reduction of environmental impact (due to lower oil consumption)

| Administrator | one thing to remember though with synthetic is that it is much more fluid. it consists of much smaller particls, ya thats wat i was trying to say. anyway when you run regular oil for a while and then switch to synthetic, leaks can occour. many people notice this more so in their vehicles, but it happens in dirt bikes too. if this happens to you dont worry. you can switch back. but now you now that an oil seal or gasket is not up to spec so u might want to replace it. all in all synthetic is a much better oil for lubrication just beware of its properties.

| Administrator | ya not a huge percentage of dirt bikers experience this problem seeing as everything is made with more exacting standards and bikes are much newer than automobiles. however a lot of people sure have problems with synthetic in their cars.

If your car is under warrenty there really is no point in using synthetic oil as you will still need to prove you change your oil every 3000 - 5000 miles if you go in for any warranty work. The cost is just that much greater and when you are not going 10k + miles between oil changes then it really is not worth it from the cost prespective.

| Administrator | i made a transition to semi-synthetic with maxima semi-synthetic 10W40 and report no trouble at all. also after one ride the oil appeared to be cleaner and all parts appeared to be oiled very nicely. i think i will stick with semi-syn because it is a proven better lubricator and i do not have the will test spend any more money for full syn and do not want to chance it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes I do not recommend runnning synthetic any any high mileage car or bike. The oil will literally create new leaks and make old ones worse. I use synthetic in my bike and in my Yukon but I put normal Valvoline or Quaker State in my Jeep but then I add a quart of Lucas. Lucas is one of the if not the best oil additive. |

| Administrator | ya i always play with their models at auto zone, the ones where they have gears running in lucas and another set in regular oil. u can turn them and feel the diff. ya synthetic really can be a pain in high mileage cars, the problem arises because the particles in synthetic oil are muchg smaller than those of regular oil. so worn gaskets and oil seals are just asking for a leak.
