![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Lawrence Tightens Lites Class Points Race Heading Into San Diego Lawrence Tightens Lites Class Points Race Heading Into San Diego AURORA, Ill. (February 5, 2008) - Yamaha of Troy's Jason Lawrence, of Carlsbad, Calif., won his second consecutive Western Regional AMA Supercross race of the season. While Lawrence wrapped up his impressive win, points leader Ryan Dungey's commanding lead was cut short after crashing in turn one. The Makita Suzuki rider came into the evening with a 19-point lead, but left Anaheim just eight points ahead of Lawrence. After fighting off Red Bull Honda's Davi Millsaps, Team San Manuel's Chad Reed won his fourth Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, race last Saturday night at Angel Stadium. This weekend Reed, of Tampa, Fla., brings a 26-point lead into San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium. A variety of ticket and pit pass deals are available, including limited $10 Treadhead seats. Off Road Warehouse is also offering a $10-off coupon (not available on $10 tickets) and Escondido Cycle Center and 7-11stores are offering free pit passes. Undoubtedly one of the circuit's best attended races, San Diego's AMA Supercross class race will be broadcast on CBS Sports Sunday, February 10 at Noon EST. The AMA Supercross Lites class will air on SPEED February 15 at Noon EST. Last weekend, at the third and final Monster Energy Supercross race in Anaheim, Calif., Team San Manuel's Reed won the AMA Supercross class main event, leading all 20 laps en route to the 30th win of career. "After last weekend, I set some goals for myself, and winning this race was definitely one of them," said Reed from the podium at Angel Stadium. "I knew that if I got the holeshot, I would be able to get this done. I had a lot in the tank after the race, so I was really happy tonight." Last year in San Diego Reed stopped AMA Supercross class points leader James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., as the two traded positions several time until Stewart crashed. A four-time winner in San Diego, Reed considers the venue one of his favorites. "I love this place," said Reed after winning his second race of the season at Qualcomm last year. "I have had so many great races here, and this is huge for me. Second place was getting really old. It's a shame to see James crash like that, but this is a big relief for me because I know I can win." After riding 13 perfect laps last year at Qualcomm, Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., won his first AMA Supercross Lites race at Qualcomm Stadium. On his way to the championship, Villopoto won seven of the eight races in Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites competition. Supercross made its debut in San Diego on October 25, 1980 when Mike Bell won on a Yamaha. Seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath, of Encinitas, Calif., holds the all-time AMA Supercross win record at San Diego with five. Kawasaki's Todd Campbell won the inaugural AMA Supercross Lites class on January 26, 1995. Tickets are available at www.supercrossonline.com, participating Yamaha dealerships, all Ticketmaster outlets or by phone at 619-220-8497. Gold Circle seats are $35; Mid-Level seats are $30 for adults and $10 for kids; Treadhead seats are $10. Fans can also request the family section when purchasing. All tickets are $2 more on the day of the race.
