Well, I have cooled welds both ways and never have received any trouble. My projects usually take a heavy beating too.

Motor is mounted!!!! Welded up the pipe and got the motor test mounted today. gotta wait for my 26 tooth #428 sprocket to come in so i can line the chain up and get the motor straight; Then I'll be able to fully weld the mount on and ride the SOB

looks good zombie, but, tig, even warping is a problem with this kind of cooling, ever watch trucks?

Warping happens from the actual welding not from the cooling. That is why you weld opposite sides as you weld. Aluminum is super bad about it.

i will try to find it, on trucks, he says, specifically that air or water cooling of the welds will warp the metal. ill make a vid of it tommorow.

only because it pulls one side down when you cool it rapidly and then you weld on the other side
that is why its a good idea to preheat your metal

No, if you weld one side, you get yourself a large pool of molten metal. This drastically contracts but once solidified does not move too much meaning even if you cool it off its not going to do too much. I don't know how much welding experience everyone has but you cane feel the parts pull super hard after a weld. I even have to compensate sometimes for the unstoppable pull.

basically if you don't get it tacked up all the way around it will be pulled to the cooling weld

i dont see what hes saying but i think turtle kinda described it. are you talking about the pool being too hot? (in which case you turn your voltage down, and wire speed up a little). or are you talking about welding over a tack? im really confused.
