Well guys i got the old girl up and runnin again, after many hours with a bead blaster, scuff pad, wet sanding and acetone here is the result. also a valve adjustment to make it run again!

yeah on the list for her:
280 big bore
new timing chain
new fuel tank
hand guards (buh bye bark busters)
getting rid of purple, making black and white.
suspension rebuild
repaint the frame,fix breaks and rust.
new seat cover
steering dampner
fasst handle bars
trail tech computer.
when im done with her she should be about the best lookin 96 xr.

ya, it will be a solid bike after that. just check everything over during the rebuild because it looks like this bike has been used very much for only a 1996.

its an xr, bullet proof, so im not too worried. the previous owner beat this thing and then i got it, and well, my heart went out to it lol.

its is recommended that u do but a lot of times they are all one unit along with the camshafts and require replacing of them also. basically when replacing timing components u should replace the chain, sliders, and gears to ensure no probs however as long as the gears show no wear and the bearings are solid then u can get away without replacing them.
