97 Suzuki 125 RM Clutch

Now that the 250 is running great... I turn my attention to our 125 RM that has had a few problems. Lately it's the clutch. It's always been touchy when engaging and releasing it at the hand lever... there's very little play... It feels like it never fully engages and the real problem is that it never full dis-engages... so she never really gets up to top speed. Lots of throttle but going very slow.

For a short while... the clutch was slipping and then finally dis-engaging. I found out the boys had been riding her like this for a while... and they messed with the lever adjustments and clutch arm position (on the case).

So I have to guess what they did since nobody remembers what they did.

Also... I found out she was running almost quart low on gear oil. I don't know how long they ran it that was either.

Any suggestions?

it may be worn out
trying tightening it up
you should be able to slide a dime in between the lever and the perch.

I think what he was saying turtle was that the clutch never fully grabbed. You should be able to fit a dime between the clutch lever and the perch. If the slack was too tight, it would have not only worn the clutch down but also glazed the pates. New clutch disks and plates are in order.

I have no clue what installation runs. I know that a full clutch kit for your bike including a basket would probably be like $150-$200.
