![]() | would this piston be good for a bore size of 113cc? eBay Motors: Honda CR85R Wiseco Piston Kit 2003-2007 CR85 Dirtbike (item 170220418391 end time May-24-08 19:25:16 PDT) It says that it has can be used with bore sizes up to .120 (50.50)mm. Would that work with my bike? |

| Pro Mototips Member | once again, you will have to TAKE IT TO A MACHINE SHOP TO GET IT MEASURED, unless you can do it yourself, which i assume you dont have the tools, it has to be exact

![]() | OK, so heres the deal, i brought it to Hoda to get it measured. They said it was a 52.7 cylinder and that i need a 52.5 piston, but he said a 52.00 would work also. Weisco makes a 52.00 top end kit which is what i would need. BUT, he said i need to send out my cylinder to the maker of it (i dont know who made it) and get new sleves put in and get it re-nickleplated. Is the guy right about all this? How much would this cost to get new sleves put in and to get it re-nickleplated? Im so confused right now about what to do. How do i find out the maker of the cylinder? I really need this to be done as soon as possible. Thanks alot. Btw it is 113cc Bored, stroked, nickel plated, ported, packed, blueprinted and ceramic bearings and has over $3,000 worth of work done to the engine. I didnt want to loose any of that, thats why i dont want to just buy a new cylinder. Last edited by abowler10154; 05-29-2008 at 01:59 PM. |

| Pro Mototips Member | well it is bored and stroked to 113cc, that different than just being bored to 113. see if you can find a 52.5 piston, the tighter the tolerances the better, you can either get it replated or sleeved, a sleeve is a steel pipe looking thing that has the ports cut into it and it is pressed into the cylinder, BUT, since your is ported the ports will be bigger than stock and the sleeves ports wont be as big as the ports in the cylinder=fail. you have to get it replated, i dont know why he told you that you need to know the company that made the cylinder, that doesnt matter, go to eric gorrs website and he has a link to US chrome, which will do it for you. Itll be around 300 to get it done, so plan on spending about 350 with shipping and any other charges they put on the bill. good luck with getting it fixed

![]() | but the person at honda said i need to get it resleeved AND re-nickleplated...your saying it wont work to get it resleeved... So, i need to get it replated, but, do i need to get it re-nickleplated also? And what does it mean for it to be nickleplated. 1 last thing. Everytime my top end goes, do i need to get it replated? |

| Pro Mototips Member | that person at the shop is a moron, and tell him that. it would work to get it resleeved but the ports on the sleeve would be smaller than those in the cylinder, so they will have to make them bigger, and they will charge you to do that. also a bike that is sleeved will run hotter because it is thicker than nikasil plating, and its not as porus as nikasil so it wont hold as much oil so it will run hotter also. and we all know that hotter temps make engines run more inefficently and make your tolerances looser to make up for the extra expansion of parts due to heat=fail. Getting it plated is the same thing at getting it nickleplated, or nikasil. getting it plated means that the person that does it will bore out the old plating, and if there are gouges that are deeper that the plating they will weld them, then they will bore it out to make it nice and smooth. then they will use a process, i dont know what it is, so put a very thin lining of nikasil onto the cylinder walls. and the only time you need to get it replated is if there are scratches in it, or if it is worn through, which will happen about every 4 years with alot of hard riding, im talking like 2 hours 5 days a week.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It happens to all of us!! abowler, gscx has it right and you should seek another shop!! as long as you don't score(scratch) the nicasil you can run a new piston and rings without rebore or recoat. Your's needs to be done.

![]() | So after i get it replated, it will still be the same size 52.7 right? Then i get a new top end kit, 52.00-52.50, put it all in and i should be good to go? Thanks alot everyone. I really apprechiate all the help. Oh and if any1 knows a company thats good like weisco that makes a 52.50 piston kit for a 04 cr85, it would be great considering i cant find one. |
