kick start it it makes no noise unless I give it gas

Hi,
I just bought this bike. When I try to kick start it it makes no noise (like it is not turning over) unless I give it some throttle (1/4 throttle). When I give it throttle I can hear it turning over. Sometimes it starts right up. Other times It takes a while. Any ideas what may be wrong?

try adjusting your idle screw, but i dont see whats wrong here, that sounds like a regular bike

Sometimes I have to run and jump start it. Also the choke won't stay up.

hmmm, the choke should be an easy fix, but sometimes hard to start is sign for a new top end, what bike? what year? how long have you had it? if its hard to start cold, and the choke isnt on, thats normal

It is not cold I am in vegas 2003 is the year

hmm, wait for tig or someone to get back, it might still be the top end, but what size bike is it? what model? if its a four stroke, they are always hard to start.

It is a 2003 yz85 - 2 stroke

four strokes are not hard to start....

can you feel uneven resistance when you are kick starting it?
what do you mean by "no" noise?
like the engine does not start or its a dead silence if there is a piston in there(needed to run) when you kick start the engine it will make a pumping noise and you will have uneven resistance on the kick starter

when you give it throttle is should sounds like it opens up a little and gets a little louder but the sound should always be there (the smaller the bike the less noise it makes)

It make a noise but no sound from the muffler. you know how a bike sounds on a normal kick? I have a kx80 that makes a sound wether i give it throttle or not. It just doesn't sound like it wants to even try to start unless i give it throttle. It doesn't seem uneven.
