| Administrator | Ok so two things about this thread. First off, lots of engine builders actually prefer Helicoil threads to the aluminum ones because they are much stronger seeing as they are steel. When you thread a bolt in, they expand slightly and the load is distributed over more area. However, I personally prefer to cut new threads. I bought my old RM80 and it had a stripped drain plug. When I was rebuilding it, I drilled it out a cut new threads in it. Even with Helicoil, they will drill it out which concerns me because for $40 they obviously aren't going to be disassembling your case. I would change my oil a few times very soon after the task.

| The Spam man | yeah, thats what i said, id rather just make new threads, like i did on my pegs yesterday (see the new stunt bar thread for details) and you are saying helicoils arent aluminum? i have a box of them right here and i know they arent, that pic up there is one i took

| Administrator | Helicoils are steel. Usually high carbon steel.
