Tip for changing tires

The old steel garbage cans of years past provide a great impromptu tire-changing stand. It’s just about the right height to give you a good amount of leverage without kneeling on the garage floor, ruining your sprocket or disc. And if you throw an old tarp (or something similar) over the top of the can before you set your tire on, it will keep any parts or tools from falling through to the bottom.

That's sweet. If you care to go into a detailed procedure on how to remove the tire from the rim, I could definitely take advantage of that too. I'm a quad guy, but it's kinda obvious that I'll eventually get a dirt bike all to myself, so I kinda need to know how to do this stuff. In return, I will post a detailed tire changing procedure for ATV tires, and you can sticky it or whatever if it's up to your standards.

I have used nothing but the a peice of cardboard on the garage floor, the bed of your truck or maybe the sanding floor of a canyon in Baja!
I haven't read the link to tire changing tips, but here are a few tips:
1. A decent level of arm strength is required. If you don't feel that you have this then don't bother, have someone else do it.
2. Use a 50/50 dish soap and water mixture to lube the tire (for removing the old and installing the new).
3. be sure to keep the opposite beed in the middle of the rim while attempting the wrestle the last been onto the rim.
4. use a been buddy, this helps to keep the beed from popping back out when; you really need 3 hands to do this and the beed buddy is the 3rd hand.
5. take your time and get some decent tire irons/tire spoons.
6. don't force the beed onto the rim; persuade it onto the rim.
