a lot of people have this problem and it turns out to be a wrist pin or connecting rod bearings. however before you check the engine check all other components like a loose exhaust or an old chain. has the bike ever had any engine work done to it? and if so, when and what?

usually not, the only real component of the water pump that could make this noise would be the impeller if it were broken, and if it were broken you would see coolant boiling out of the overflow tube. if you are sure it is an engine noise then i would go with the wrist pin or rod bearings. it could be a real loose piston, but you would normally hear that noise all the time. so if you are sure that its engine troubles then u might want to pull the engine. check everything obvious before doing this of course, but then pull the head and cylinder. try to rock the piston side to side the opposite way the bearings are . you will feel some play but u should be able to tell if its excessive. then pull the piston. look at the sides of the piston for strange wear marks or anything obvious. then look at the wrist pin (the piece of shiny metal that holds the piston to the connecting rod) look for any wear or obvious signs. check the cylinder walls also. feel the top of the cylinder for a lip or look for any wear or obvious markings in the cylinder. rock the connecting rod opposite of the bearings also and check for an excessive amount of play. these are just a few things to check. let me know if u have questions are find out the problem.

Engine Noise

Thank you very much for your insite.I will look inside the engine this weekend.Just to double check the engine only makes this noise when coming down on its revs.I dont hear this noise when at idle or reving up just when you let off on the trottle.
thank you

ya when the noise is only happening when spooling down it usually indicates something in the linkage between the piston and crank
