Basic tuning a DB

I recently bought a 94 KX125. It rides alright. I drained the gas, put in 80w tranny oil, put in new gas and oil mixture. Im going to install a new FMF fatty pipe with a new pro circut muffler. Also, Im going to throw on a new air filter. Will I have a noticable difference? Will it smoke less? Anything esle I should do? Drain the radiator etc? Also, the throttle cable is loose and when I turn the handle bars it pulls the throttle up and revs high...any ideas? Cable ties? ANY help would be great. Thanks.

ya with a pipe and air filter u will need to re-jet. as far as smoking less, u own a 2 stroke and it is always going to smoke if it is tunned right. with the throttle cable, it is not routed right if it is giving u these symptoms. it is routed real bad if it goes from being real lose to revving the engine. for fluids, i would suggest replacing them all including brake fluid and coolant. any air filters choices, try a twin air or no toil.

ya, smoking is just the nature of the beast. go through and replace all fluids, on that old a bike i would check all the lines also and check for damage or cracks. also check your brake pads, chain, and sprockets.

ya, i have discovered many things that probably would have destroyed the bike, like a loose clutch basket nut and a crankcase gasket that was pieced back together with gasket maker. or my favorite, the drain plug was jb welded shut. hmmm.... wonder how many times he changed the oil before i got the bike. me and my friend actually had to pick up the bike and turn it upside down and drain the oil through the filler plug. good thing it was my old rm80 and it only weighed like 160lbs.
