bike problems

hey i am currently working on a 1984 Suzuki DS80 and im not able to get it to turn over, except for one time.

i got this bike about 6 months ago and when i got it, it started up but it took alot of kicks to get it started and when it did start if the choke was either on or off (dont remeber which) the reving would not climax (it would just keep reving even when your not touching the throttle). also when it was running there would be thick white smoke coming out of the exhaust. and it would also leak oil out of the exhaust alittle bit. then after about a week of riding we couldn't get it started at all.

the main reason we bought this bike is to use the engine/tranny for a gokart. so after riding for about a week we just took the whole bike completely apart. but we never got a frame for the gokart and i have been bored lately so i decided to start putting it back together. now it is completely together but will not turn over (except for one time i got it to turnover but it didnt stay running for more then 30 seconds)

over the past week i have been trying alot of things to get this bike running. i checked my spark to make sure that is good and it is. i know im getting good compression. i took the carb completely apart and cleaned it out and everything looked in order in the carb to my eyes.

do you guys have any other suggestions for me to try to get this bike started? this is my first project bike and i dont know a whole bunch about dirt bikes so im sure there is just something im over looking.

thanks in advance for all your help

make sure your throttle valve isnt sticking, if it ran for too long at high rpm it may be toast.

what is your mixture, because it should be around 32:1 to 40:1. also since there is thick white smoke you should put a smaller jet in it and move your clip down one notch, if you can do this to a bike that old im not shoure, but either way your air fuel mixture should be leaner

i didn't run too long at high rpm just maybe 5 seconds.

and it is oil injected so i dont have to mix my gas it does it by itself. should i try disconnecting the oil tank and run mixed gas?

I have a dt80 that has that, I dont trust, just run mixed gas in the tank, dont worry about unplugging it.

another thing i forgot to mention is that my clutch does not fully engage. anytips on how to adjust that? and could that have anything to do with the bike not starting?

youll have to wait for tigmaster on that one, to adjust it there should be two nuts on the clutch cable.

pull the head and peak down the cylinder to look for obvious damage.
