lawnmower question

k, so i pulled the motor out of my soon to be racing lawnmower, took it apart, and now need bearings, rings, maybe pistons, gaskets, ect. where can i get all this stuff? i can take pictures if necessary. it is an onan 19.5 hp motor.

weve got an old yard machine that runs but just sits, was thinkin about doing something oif the sort, just for fun... what do you have to do to them? is it in the gearing of the transmission that makes them run at the speed they do or what?

sorry if thats a dumb question, i dont know much about them.. hah

yes but the tranny needs to be beefed up if not it will crack

garden tractors and much better because they are made for pulling heavy loads = bigger axles, stronger case and so forth

hydrostatic is not the way to go

you usually take the pulleys to a different size, put a good intake on it, take the mower deck off, lot of stuff like that. the biggest difference is if you change the transmission. those things are alot of the slowness.

i forgot to add, that it is about 20-30 years old. it is an onan engine. i dont know where to get parts online.

you may want to lower the seat... a lot

change the carb to a dirt bike atv carb

**note the engine will not last as long due to over speeding (to high of rpm)

that is a horizontal shaft motor isn't it?

the only dif between horizontal and vertical shaft engines is a little splasher that bolts to the crank. you can make one out of a feeler gauge. also, be careful because a lot of lawnmowers use bushings instead of bearings so wear is inevitable.

this thing is going for a huge over haul, a new seat, maybe some paint, new plastics, hour guages, cold air intake, belts, ect. i just need to get it running first.
