sounds like it not tuned right...
were you raising the throttle and then dropping it?

sounds leaner than straight air to me

i dont think so, it was a $900 wal-mart lawnmower lol! so, i took it out and mowed a small lawn, about 30 minutes, and the second i finished, smoke filled the air. i shut it off, popped the hood, and smoke poured out. turned it over a couple times, pumped some smoke out, then started it. started right up, and it wasnt smoking. what happened? this happened 3 times in the course of its so far 2 year life, and it always quit right after we started it back up. except the last time, which it blew up

... sounds like oil was splashing on the back of the piston

was the yard slanted and the piston pointing down hill when it happened?

what all did you have to replace to fix it?

my old go kart had a problem like that (5hp horizontal shaft piston facing straight up)

i drove it down at my old school in the buss loop and managed to take the turn fast enough that it would pull the oil to one side of the engine and up to the piston
(yea, that was a high G turn)

this made the oil go into the cylinder and made it smoke horridly
