Anyone here good with php and mysql? I'm not, though I do know programming and databases fairly well. Here's my situation, mayhaps you can help.

Over at my new web site, A Musing Scribe, I've set up a blog at /blog and my main site runs Joomla on the root directory. I found a somewhat stripped down template for wordpress, and stripped it down even more so I could "wrap" it inside my joomla site without the sidebars and any other extra crap I don't want. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Anyway, I use the blog for 2 things... one is for deep links (so I can reference my other writing from other sites to help increase page rank), the other is for a study I've decided to do a couple weeks ago about the cause and effect of ATV Accidents. As many of you are aware, ATVers face lots of opposition from people who want to A) close ALL public land to OHV and ATVs, and B) to ban ALL children from riding ANY ATV until they're 16.

I created a category and sub categories to list the number of accidents total and to separate them into categories of "cause". Right now I don't have a way of pulling the data from the wordpress site and displaying it dynamically on the main site.

The counting is done so far by the number of entries in the categories, but you have to go to the blog then scroll to the bottom to find the categories that got moved from the sidebar.

* Drugs/Alcohol (3)
* No Helmet (23)
* On Pavement (9)
* Ridden Safely (3)
* Riding 2 Up (11)
* Too Big (1)

I'd like to be able to pull that data from the wordpress database and display it on the joomla site without having to do it manually.

Is there a way to open a separate database (on the same server) and pull only certain data (or preferably just count each entry in each category) and parse it with php so I don't have to update this all the time?

BTW, as you can see from the barely 2 week old stats so far, only 3 out of 37 accidents happened while the ATV was ridden safely, (i.e. with a helmet, no drugs, not too big, not on pavement, not ridden two up, not unsupervised etc).

man, i wish i could help but i dont know a huge ammount of php. however i did this exact thing a long time ago with actionscript and perl. dont even remember that though.

You should be able to find a bridge for wordpress to joomla. I myself have never worked with joomla. The one time I did I got so frusterated I was going to rip my hair out .
