Question Bike in lake do i buy?

I am looking to buy a used bike, it is a 2000 CR 125. I rode it today and I love it. One problem my friend knows the seller and we looked him up on Face Book, there is a picture of him in a lake with the water up to the seat. Is this something to be concerned about??? The bike ran great, what should I look for??

if its still running its not a big deal, I bet he cleared it out anyway, but to be safe pull the top end and look for rust.

I like this way of researching people. Thank goodness for the modern web... The only thing I would worry about is rust... That normally comes in salt water though.

yes, i would do a few tests on the bike. first off, run the bike for about 20 secs from a cold start then turn it off. drain just a bit of the gear oil into a small clear container. let it sit for about 10mins. if you see any water settling on the top, confront him about this problem. next, pull the sparkplug and look for any signs of rust on it. try to look into the bore with a flashlight and see if you can see any rust. of course, check the air filter. if you are serious about buying the bike and you dont think he will get mad, ask him about the photo. ask him what he did to restore the bike after being in the lake. if its running though i wouldnt be too concerned because rust shouldnt happen then.

Rusty innards

If I did find rust, what would I have to do. What kinds of problems would there be. I want the bike but I don't want a lemon.
Thanks for the replies.

considering it still runs, that would not allow for rust to really form, I would buy it.

yes, wr is right. once it is started again after being in the water, oil and gas mixture flows over the few steel parts in the bike. the only parts that can really rust is the sleeve and bearings. and seeing as the piston rubs continuously on the sleeve, rust doesnt really get the chance to form as long as the bike is running. just check everything i said above and it will be fine.
