RC [power valve] cleaning/decarbonizing

I have a 01 CR125 How often should i clean it how do i clean it

I personally would suggest each rebuild. To clean it properly you will need to remove the head. Yes, you can kinda clean it with the head on but I would suggest the full clean. There is no real trick to cleaning it, just get some simple green and a toothbrush. Make sure to check and see if everything operates fine before reinstalling.

the power valves come out without taking the head off, there is a cover on the front of the little box the hase the spring in it, and you can use a toothbrush, or just scrape it off with a object that isnt sharp, i clean mine about every 3 weeks, but thats just me, tigs advice is probly better though for the timeline of cleaning them

I realize they do come off without taking the head off but half the decarbonizing consists of the exhaust port as well. And if you were to clean it with the piston in you would just be pushing crap into the cylinder or the side of the piston.
