![]() | No clutch in deep water Yesterday I did some deep water crossing. On my 2002 CR250R.I was going slow working the clutch. And I noticed half way across I was losing my clutch. Like it was losing adjustment. When I reached the other side. I pull in the clutch lever I could only feel strain on the lever when it was almost to the handle bar. So I pumped the lever a few times and it got a little better. And longer I rode the bike not in water the clutch went back to normal. Just wondering if someone had any ideas what It could be. | Administrator | What do you mean losing your clutch? Which way? Did it start sticking or slipping?

![]() | you know when you pull in on your clutch lever.you should feel it when you first pull on the lever.Buy the time i got to the end of the water my lever was almost to the handle bar before i could feal any pressure. It was like my cable had streched |

| Administrator | Oh..... This is very strange. There is nothing that can do that unless you have some weird cable stretch. Once the cable connects to the engine, it is all solid linkage from there. I would question replacing the cable.

| Administrator | That doesn't work... The cable is directly attached to the lever. If it slipped, it would have broken.

![]() | A guy at a dealer told me that the reason it happened is. The transmission case cooled down so much when it was under water it created a decompression in the case. Causing the clutch to act funny. And it could suck water into the case. That will explain why my clutch went back to normal after riding a bit longer. The case got back to normal temp. But he also told me to check my mag side for water and my trany oil.I changed my trany oil. No show of water. And I had a little water on the mag side. |

| Administrator | Well, I would just ignore this problem then.

| Pro Mototips Member | it should not suck water in your case as long as the breather is not clogged maybe the outer case of the cable shrank? (should not have gone that far though)

| Administrator | Actually it could suck water into his case. If the breather tube was exposed to water when the cases cooled off excessively the vacuum would be enough to suck a bit in. I think this is just an odd occurrence. I am a bit confused about what you are referring to as the Magnesium side. I assume you are saying clutch cover side. The is directly connected to the transmission oil so changing it would remove any water.
