| B Rider | It works exactly like that. Service Honda cuts the front downtube out of the stock CRF aluminum frame and modifies it to clear the CR500 exhaust port and adds front motor mounts. Then welds it back in. I've seen several conversions that are much cleaner than Service Honda CR500AF. The CR500 was an open class motocross race bike. They suck for high speed desert riding. Short wheel base and steep fork rake make them twitchy at high speed. The KX500 is better for desert if you want to run a 2 stroke. They dominated Baja before the XR650 came out. With the KX be prepared to either put the gusset kit on the frame or get really good at welding frame cracks. They vibrate much worse than a CR500. Comparing them is apples and oranges. Decide what kind of riding you want to do then decide between the CR and KX. Just keep in mind that there is much more support from the aftermarket for the CR500.

| B Rider | The average price for a 1990 - 2001 CR500 around here is $1200-$1500 on craigs list. I have seen them down as low as $600 for a good runner. And then with the crack smoking problems of the bay area up as high as $3000. Or with all the AF conversions buy a roller for $300-$500 and add a motor/trans for $600-$1000 and have a really nice steel frame CR500 cheap.

| B Rider | They have alot of experience selling OEM Honda parts. I know AJ Waggoner from 2 other sites. For those that dont know as much as gscx he is the owner of Service Honda. Service Honda does alot of conversions. They are set up assembly line style with production welders. They knock out alot of bikes but mass production does not mean quality. Because SH cuts and reuses the front down tube along with their production welders they have real problem with frames cracking along the front motor mounts. This is one of the "backyard joes" I was referring to. ![]() Mike builds the best aluminum frame conversions bar none. His conversions are done one at a time. Instead of reusing the stock downtube Mike machines a new one from solid billit aluminum. ![]() ![]() Team Trubbles bikes are used by real professional motocross racers not just inbred booger eating hillclimbers like the hillbillys Team Peterson. ![]() FACHAR & SONS, INC. | B Rider | The conversion from teem trubble is still cheaper than buying a Service Honda CR500AF. That one in the pic started out as a 2005 CRF125.
