1983 ATC110 quick question :)

Hey im new here. I just bought an 83' ATC110 for $150
Only thing wrong with it is the plastics and the seat pan are fried (but no problem for me as i work with fiberglass )

anyways...what I need help with is finding out if I can trickle charge a small deep cycle battery off of the bikes (correct me if im wrong here..) ?stator? so i can run some bigger trail lights and a small audio system

first of all, welcome, so if im correct, you want to charge a battery off of a stator to run an audio system and bigger trail lights, correct? well, this seems possible, but will be very hard, will have problems with it running down, and well maybe do some damage to the stator. this is just what i think will happen, i dont know much about 3 wheelers except that they are dangerous. see what wr250 and tigmaster say, then go from there. again, welcome.

are you wanting to charge the battery when it is light out and then drain it when dark? or do you want it to stay charged?

you have to look at the max output of your alternator, you may have to re-wrap your lighting coil or buy a new one if the power out is not sufficient

does your bike have a battery on it now?

run bigger trail lights? yes, with a higher out put stator.
run an audio system? that takes some juice, and it may rob enough to where it cant power the bikes other systems.
Im going to wait for tig on this because Im not too sure and have never encountered this idea before.
but if your wanting to power charge two batteries off of one stator, your going to need more juice simply put, let alont the task of finding a place to put the other battery.
Welcome to the boards btw

the bike is more than likely running AC to the lights...
in other words he will need a rectifier to turn the AC in to DC so he can use a battery

i am not sure how you would control the speed at which it charges the battery though. if it charged slow enough it could work

now im actually just thinking of having an independent battery to run the lights and stereo. I have an RV Deep cycle that i might just put on the back and fiberglass over it.

Ill wait and see how things go tomorrow while im glassing

I dont know of a way to make the stator change its rate of flow.
