| Administrator | Keeping The Fluids Good All those fluids are in your bike for a reason and they need to be changed regularly to keep things running good. With 4 or more fluids, maintenance is definitely required. For you four-strokers keeping your oil changed is a huge thing. If you are like me and ride for a 10 hour day, I would recommend an oil change every 1-2 rides. Makes sure that with every oil change you also change your filter. This sometimes requires the draining of your coolant through a small bolt on the bottom of the water pump cover. While the cover is off check your water pump for wear and cracks. You can reuse this coolant, just keep it clean. On two strokes all that is required is the removal of a bolt on the bottom of the crankcase. Next to keep in line is coolant. Coolant is that demanding on maintenance, just check it regularly to keep things safe. Coolant should be changed every 6 months. If you have the money, try to buy a high grade POWERSPORTING coolant otherwise buy 50/50 pre-diluted or mix pure antifreeze with softened water. Make sure to check your water pump for wear or cracks and replace if necessary. Keeping coolant changed keeps your bike running with the most power possible. Monitoring your coolant temperature is also a good idea. You can buy temperature strips that press on to the radiator or a little trick is to route your overflow cable to the end of your bars, that way you can see trouble. A little sacrifice like having that tube there is worth it to protect your engine. Brakes are next on our list. I change this about every 6 months to a year. If you every feel sponginess in your brakes check out your pads and change your fluid. Remember when changing, make sure that there are no air bubbles in the line. This is done by pumping the handle until you don’t see any more bubbles. Suspension oil is also another important fluid that is recommended to be changed every 3 months. If you feel the need to do this go ahead, yet I don’t change mine for 6 months. If your suspension begins to hit hard then a change is recommended. When filling your forks remember to get equal oil levels in each fork. I know this was brief and a little un-descriptive yet if you would like more information about a specific topic let me know and I will happily go into detail.
