![]() | Honing a 2 Stroke Hello everybody, Im new to the online forums, and I have a question about my bike. I've got a 2000 CR 250 that I've had for 2 seasons now, and even though its still running good I bought a Wisco piston kit, as a preventative measure. I was wondering if it is necessary to hone the cylinder, if there isn't any noticeable scratches? If so whats the best way to hone it? And any other tips before I switch it out would be great. -Thanks for the help |

| Administrator | yes, hone no matter what but i would suggest taking it to a local machine shop or power sporting shop and and having them measure the bore to make sure that things are not too worn down causing a hone to be pointless and requiring either a bore or new cylinder. in technical words, have the mic the cylinder for excessive runout. but as a general rule of thumb, any time you even so much as take the piston out of the cylinder you should hone it. however must people do not do this. also, replace any gaskets you take off. you dont even see scratches normally when a hone is required, however after a hone, you will see a nice crosshatch pattern.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | But be carefull because honing will take material off the cylinder walls and can cause excessiv episton to cylinder clearance if you hone it too much or hone it multiple times.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I allows the rings to seat and it cleans the cylinder wall up. If you don't hone the cylinder when you replace rings or pistons they rings will not seat properly and you will have issues.
