and the alternator/fly wheel is on the left

if you do not see the clutch basket when you take it off no
if it is dry in there is is the fly wheel / alternator

most any clutches on bikes are wet clutches, in other words they are in motor oil

when you take the left cover off on my bike, you see the front sprocket, the chain, and the clutch, yes.

Why are we discussing the clutch issues? I have seen the chain under a cover before on an old Suzuki something I had but never the clutch on the same side. This seems sketchy to me so a pic well help sort it out.
