My favorite thing was how he said it was necessary to start with a spotless engine. I thought it was filthy.

Ya, dirt is not a legit thing on my bike. I could take the valve cover off and shake my bike and still feel safe about no dirt getting. After some rides I have spent multiple hours just cleaning my bikes.

i am not that nitpicky
i will spray it with degreaser/dish soap let it sit for 10 minutes and spray it off with power washer
that will do it for a after ride cleanup
if i have to work on the engine i take it out and clean it by itself no dirt leftover and dried with forced air (air compressor)

My routine:
Power wash all mud and debris off the bike as good as possible. This is where lots of people would stop because my bike already then looks super clean. Then comes the second round with a huge batch of soapy water sprayed at the bike with the pressure washer. This sets until dry. Then comes a rinse with pressure washer. Many people would stop here too, but not me. Then comes the simple green. The entire bike gets coated with about a 3:1 simple:water mixture. This sets until dry again. Power wash again and repeat this step if necessary. Bike is sparkling and spotless. Let dry and push into driveway. Remove seat and air filter. Start bike and let it burn off most water. While still running, turn the gas off. Go for a ride up and down the STREET a few times to dry the chain and to warm it up. Bring the bike back and let it kill itself from no gas. Try to start it a few times. Put it on a stand and oil the chain. Clean the filter and use a hair dryer to get it dry quickly. Oil and put everything back together. Insert exhaust plug and have a good man stare at your fine piece of machinery and then roll it into the garage and head upstairs to posts pictures on Mototips from your days ridding. This is what I do.
