| Super Moderator | Starting a manual decompression Yamaha YZ/WR This is the starting routine for any yz/wr built before the year 2003. 1. Turn fuel **** to the "ON" position, if motor is cold, pull choke out, if motor is hot, pull red hot start button out. 2. Pull in decompresion lever and gently push the kickstarter till you feel resistance on the compresion stroke of the piston, go until it feels like it kinda released and stopped, the starter should be somewhere inbetween 1/2 to 3/4 through its complete stroke. 3. Allow kick starter to return to orginal position, release decompresion lever. 4. Now kick it all the way through its stroke, the bike should start if bike is cold: allow bike to idle with choke on until rads are warm, at which point turn off the choke and ride! if bike is warm, push in the red hot start button and ride. Okay, just thought I would throw out some random info on not commonly found items used in this. The Red Button, leans out the fuel mixture to aid hot starting the Choke, richens the mixture to aid in cold starting the Decompresion lever opens a valve, allowing compression to escape thus making it easier to locate top dead center in the compresion stroke and easier to push the kickstarter through its stroke, hope this helps someone.

| Administrator | a lot of people will actually pull the decomp lever in all the way and kick the bike super hard and immediately as soon as they kick it let off the decomp lever and power through all the compression. this method works great once you get the hang of it.

| Super Moderator | I forgot to mention that a shortcut is to kick the bike through a full stroke twice with the decompression lever pulled in and halfway through the third release it, bike shoud start.

| Administrator | ya, it really depends on the bike. or you could solve this the easy way and buy an aftermarket cam or the convo kit.

| Super Moderator | I think in general 4strokes like technique better than bruet force though.
