| Administrator | yamaha has had plenty of trouble with their yz250f, but what company hasnt? honda has had trouble with their valves and so has suzuki. switch to stainless and u will have no trouble. suzuki has overheating issues but a 1.6 radiator cap fixes that. yamaha has cam troubles and the bearings seizing and folding over the valves, honda has had this prob too. there are a few facts to help u decide. suzuki also has this problem but u are able to remedy this by cutting an oiling slot on the exhaust journal. i did it with no trouble.

| Super Moderator | find a 2001 rmz250 or crf250r thats still running, wait, you wont. my 2001 has never even had its valves adjusted, and its 6 years old. althought the yzf had valve problem is 2006, it wasnt even completly yamahas fault, it was the valve manufacter. I will not deny that the yzf has problems. all high performance 4 strokes have problems, however most is due to lack of service on the owners part. ![]()

| Administrator | well seeing as the rmz250 came out in '04... as far as yur bike, it is designed to be less of a maintenance requiring machine. is yur bike stock stainless or titanium? either way yur valves will not last 6 years and still be in spec. on any bike u need to check the valve lash monthly and shimming is usually required every 4-6 months. and yes lack of service will destroy any bike, keep it maintained and u will have a solid running machine for years.

| Super Moderator | seeing as how the rmz came out in 04 was my point. and no my bike was not designed to require less maintence. it is basically the same as a yzf motor. they are stock. not out of spec. and still perfect. however im going to take apart this winter anyway. any bike that is ridden hard, put away and ridden hard without maintence will soon be a parts bucket.

| Administrator | ...that word is reserved for honda, who in my opinion has the most reliable 4 strokes out there. even their 2 strokes are super reliable.

| Administrator | yamaha had that whole recall thing with their "billet" triple clamps snapping in half and the forks tearing off.
