sprocket help

I have a stock 2005 rm-z250 and bought a renthal rear sprocket. The sprocket i got is a 51 tooth, and a friend of mine said that it would be way too much. He said i would go through each gear way too quick, is this true or should I be fine withe it. Thanx

well it sorta does matter where and what you ride, but with it being a 4 stroke and all it should be able to pull a 49 tooth sproket fine. but i would just wait until the sproket wore out untill i went and got a new one, you will just have to shift sooner for now, unless you have the money. and when you get a sproket you should get both of them and a chain as a set, because it will wear down real quick if you dont get a whole new set of sprockets and chain
