Has anyone imported a new bike into Canada?

If you purchased a new dirt bike and imported it into Canada, what was involved? Do we have to pay duty because they are not manufactured in North America? Does the RIV fee apply? I am going to research it but was wondering if anyone has gone through it already?

If any one is interested, read the link that medic201 attached. Competition bikes are exempt from the RIV fee. Can anyone tell me if a YZ, CRF, or a KXF are considered competition bikes, they need to have a sticker from the manufacture stating they for for closed course use only?

The only reason I am considering buying in the US is because I can save about $2000 - $2500 on a new 09. Example - I found a few 2009 YZ 250's in the US for around the $4600 US range, up here the best price I found was $7499 Canadian.

About what? The hassle to get one imported or the prices of new bikes?

I found two 2009 KX 250F's here they are selling for $6999 each. Dealer told me that price was $1 above his cost and they don't know why they have to pay more for bikes than US dealers - maybe it has something to do with volume sold.

I really think it has to do with volume, shipping, and taxes.

That dealer is lying to you, im sorry but he is. You dont stay in business by selling product at cost, simple economics. I am sorry if it sounds like im insulting him but a salesman is alaways a salesman, know matter what.
