Finger Lakes 4/3/08

Well, Jim and I are heading down to Finger Lakes State Park in Columbia, MO. Just Jim and I. This means, blazing speed and crazy, manly attempts at insane hill climbs. There is a very large track there as well. Someone will die. See ya Sunday.

So, we welded on a titanium header and it didn't work out too well for us.

Well, as soon as I laid the first bead, Jim and I said this is Titanium but we tried to straight face it and continue welding. Then it didn't work too well and we gave up. I will be the first to tell you that Titanium is the worst thing to weld on. You have to have full Argon around both sides of the weld plus precise heat control.

Now to Finger Lakes. It sucked bad. It was the worst ride we have ever ever ever been on. Apparently 3 inches of rain snuck in last night and it was bad. Finger Lakes is always muddy but today was horrible. We left at 3:00. There was not a single trail that Jim and I both were off our units at least three times. We got things so stuck. I got my bike stuck in quick sand mud and it took us half an hour to get it out. I ended up turning the fuel off and dragging it on its side through the creek because there was no way to roll it. It was so bad. The MX track was completely unusable, only a few jumps were clearable. Sucked so bad. We had so much mud on our bikes that we barely could even pick up Jim's quad onto the trailer and normally Jim can do it himself. It was bad. Everything was mud. You were just be doing 40mph and hit huge ruts filled with mud. Fight it and get through. Man it was bad.

Ya, the deed has been done. It is now all clean and nestled in the basement. I also had to scrub my boots with Simple Green and a brush.
