New here...

Hey all..Im trying to find a good dirt bike forum and hopefuly this one is it. anyway. Im a vintage bike person love them. and im about to buy a 1974 Honda XL 125 for 100 bucks. the guy rebuilt the whole engine new piston new cam shaft all those things but he tells me it keeps flooding...is the float messed up then and maybe need a carb clean? i have recently rebuilt a 1977 Yamaha IT 400 D when i got it the person ran it without oil no premix plus so the piston seized but he kicked it back out of it but he never told me this and told me it just needed alittle tlc...so i took it for 200...kinda wish i didn't...but...i said the heck with it and tore it all down...and when i opened it up the piston was melted and the rings were melted to the piston and the cylinder was scared up so i got it bored out and over sized the piston and then i replaced all the gaskets and the wrist pin and bearings but then when i tore everything down and was putting it back together they sent me the wrong gasket for the head and so i took the old one took a blow torch and got it red hot and bent it back into shape and put it on and worked like a dream btw this was a copper gasket and then after i got the cylinder back into place and torqued the bolts down i tore apart the carb cleaned it out bought new jets and what not put that back in bought a new throttle cable cause the old one snapped also bought new tires and bought a used has tank and cap. and i had a lot of exhaust problems so i sealed it up with red gasket sealer the bike was a piece also had the silencer hot tanked to get rid of carbon build up and put silencer packing in. not bad for my first rebuild. im only 20 years old and new nothing about dirt bikes going into this haha. heres a vid if u wanna see it when i first got it running. it looks a lot different than in this video... so just to note. my bike is not finished in this video just when i first got it running...and my brother is test driving it for me. cause i've never rode a dirt bike before so thats why im buying the honda...

also heres the picture of my honda...

tell me what u think. sorry for it being so long.

welcome! i have a bike that looks alot like that, its a 1977xr75 anyways, the xl/xr's are great bikes, bulletproof. since you have no experience i would suggest buying it, or you can just go straight for a 125 2 stroke, but $100, even i wouldnt pass that up and im cheap and already own a bike twice as powerful! since you already know how to work on them, i think you would do great as a bike rider. nice bike btw!

Haha awesome...The only problems i've had with the bike now is the exhaust seems to leak...where it bolts down to the cylinder and seems to be loose i've put new springs on and it still pops it loose after i start it...so i double springed it and put Red RTV Silicon sealant on it and it fixed it for now...but i must say when i go to kick start that thing and it kicks back at me man that hurts haha...way to much compression haha.

well that is sweet! me and tigmaster both live in mo and were just talking about a ride together! i will google earth how close we are, and if you are talking about the xl125, yeah, its a 4 stroke i can tell because of the xl and there is no expansion chamber.
