howdy, new guy need help

How do everyone. looking at buying a 1987 honda cr 80 for my boy. he has been riding a honda xr 80 for two years and is ready for more power.

my question is the price. dude wants $800 for the bike. it is in very good condition but 800 is a lot for that year bike. anything special about that bike. i would like a late 90's for that price but cant seem to find any in NE Ohio.

any help on price or other options for my boy would be great.

I ride a kx 250 and my daughter rides a yz 80. wife is still on the atv.

well

That definately would not be a good buy. I don't care how good of condition it is in you shouldn't buy it. I once bought a 1989 RM80 for $550. It had every mod you could want and was in perfect condition. I sold it for $800, but I could guarantee that bike was in perfect condition. I completely rebuilt the entire bike including the engine. It got me $800, but I don't think the bike your looking is in this good of condition. Also there is a huge difference between the later cr80's and the newer cr85's. If you can afford a newer cr85 then you should definately get it because theres a huge difference. Also if you have the money you might want to check out a few 4 stroke 150's. You have heard of the new crf150r, but thats a little pricey, but is so amazing. I don't know just keep looking and you will find a better deal, they are out there.

sawblade,
Have you ever thought about getting your boy an XR100 or something like that?
A 2 stroke 80 can be a handful if you're a small guy just coming up from a lazy 4 stroke 80. That does sound like alot though for the 80, I don't think it sounds like a good deal, even for California!

thanks guys for the input. sounds like i need to keep looking or get this dude to lower his price a lot. My boy is ready for a two stroke. he needs to learn the about that white knuckle jerk of the two stroke beast. when hes bigger and older, we'll go back to 4 stroke and find out what everybodys been raving about. 4 strokes are still to pricey for my wallet. but i do agree that they are the future and i know well ride them eventually.
