First of all we welcome yet another Yamaha rider to the crew!

Now down to the problem. How are you checking spark? Like JT said make sure thet the plug is not fouled out. You should also check the plug wire to make sure it is not damaged. I do not remember what the spec is off hand and I do not have my manual handy right now but you should be able to get that spec and test the wire with an ohm meter. Have you changed the plug out? It is not common but I have seen plugs that short out internally.

OH i forgot, if it has any spark at all, its possible the plug is failing under compression. had this problem with my old honda. after i fouled it by running two smoke gas in it (hey it was an emergency!) i cleaned the plug up put it back in and it was failing under compression! it had spark but it didnt when it was compressed.

no. it has no spark at all. I am sure it is not a fouled plug. If u hold on to the end of the spark pleg with one hand , and touch the engine head with the other , the have someone kick over the engine, nothing happens. so it has no spark.

Change the plug out then if you still don't have spark test the wire.

ya to ensure its not the sparkplug, pull it out and put the end of a screwdriver in the plug wire and hold it about half an inch frame some bare metal. kick it over and check for spark. if u have it then its just the plug. otherwise u can perform a few tests with an ohm metter. touch one of the probes to the sparkplug wire and the other to some bare frame metal. the resistance reading should be somewhere around 80 ohms. if it is lower, the coil is bad. do the same test on the coil with the smaller wire exiting the coil and on some bare frame metal. should be somewhere in the low kilo ohms. if either of these measurements are higher or lower the coil is bad, and if u have already replaced the cdi then this is most likely your culprit.
