Last Saturday, the Chase field stadium at Phoenix witnessed the second round of the 2012 FIM World Championship. It was a very competitive event wherein, Ryan Dungey of team Red Bull/KTM went away with his first win of this season and also gifted Red Bull/KTM its first ever AMA Supercross series win. The second round of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross series, a part of theFIM World Championship invaded Chase Field stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, last Saturday. Ryan Villopoto of team Kawasaki, the winner of round one, came into Chase Field brimming with high confidence. He went into the qualifiers with the quickest 450 lap timing but his luck was not on his side on the actual race day. He crashed both in his heat and main event races.Luck seemed to be favoring Red Bull/KTM's Ryan Dungeyas he registered his first win in the 2012 season. He recently joined hands with Red Bull/KTM leaving Yamaha and this collaboration seemed fruitful in just two matches. His convincing win at Phoenix gave Red Bull/KTM their first ever AMA Supercross main event win.
Meanwhile in the SupercrossLites, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Dean Wilson went away with his first win of this season.Marvin Musquin, teammate of Dungey, secured the second spot. Kawasaki’sTylaRattraydelivered a great performance and finished third in the race.Villopoto had to fight hard for his position. The defending championlooked struggling during his first lap in the sand section of the race track. By the end of the first lap, he was at the dead last position. But he showed some great effort and talent and came right back up. He was blazing in the next lap and tore in to deliver the fastest lap time of the race.
The action was fierce between TwoTwo Motorsports/Honda's Chad Reed and JGR/Toyota/Yamaha's James Stewart. While Stewart looked aggressive, he scrubbed up with the wall kept in the sand section and came too close to Honda’s Andrew Short. This crash made Stewart battle for a top ten spot. Eventually,he finishedeighth and Reed took came in fifth.
Now, the series moves on to the third round at the Dodgers Stadium, Los Angeles. The stadium witnessed some of the best races ever. This one too is going to be another nail-biting and high voltage racing event. Villopoto was victorious here last year but this time, there seems to be many favorites who are competent enough to win the race this year. Dungeyis expected to carry the momentum from his victory at Phoenix and again deliver a great performance. Villopoto being the defending championwill try to defend the trophy.
