Graham Jarvis easily won the 2012 Extreme Enduro Tough One race held at Nantmawr Quarry. He was able to do it in about 2.5 hours with lap times of just over ten minutes.
The 2012 Extreme Enduro recently kicked off in the United Kingdom about 70 miles southwest of Manchester in a place called Nantmawr Quarry. Graham Jarvis continued his string of victories by out lapping his best competitors including Wayne Braybrook of UK, Sherco of UK, and KTM’s Ben Hemingway who landed the third slot. Jarvis did all of this in the Tough One in just 2.5 hours amassing lap times of just a tad over ten minutes.
Graham Jarvis seemed to be coasting to an easy victory here, as nobody was able to seriously challenge his game. For instance, KTM’s super rider Jonny Walker had to withdraw from the race due to an illness, while other top riders like Chris Birch of NZL, KTM as well as Darryl Curtis of RSA. KTM decided that their time was worth spending more in Dakar than in this competition while some riders did not even bother to show up for the race.
Another top British rider Paul Bolton of KTM the runner up in the 2011 Tough One race had motorcycle problems, which forced him to quit the race in the third lap. It was quite a setback, as he was the one who could really give Jarvis a real challenge for the top spot.
The race began promptly at three pm where riders immediately faced an uphill battle that ran for 200 meters. The dirt bike riders also got to experience some cross country style track that was not really that challenging except for diving into the quarry. The pretty steep downhill ride was a bit of an extreme challenge to some of the riders, as they had to closely watch their rear wheel in order not to lose control of their machines. Some riders were not so fortunate, but the good thing was there were no serious injuries.
Graham Jarvis was able to do fourteen laps. Steve Ireland, the promoter has designed a very crowd friendly course enabling the fans to get a clear view of the riders performing difficult maneuvers.
Mexican Jesus Zavala of KTM did an excellent job of finishing eighth despite his headlights malfunctioning and him having a glass eye. However, it was pretty evident that Graham Jarvis was the star of this race, as he quickly grabbed the lead and never looked back. He said that the quarry gave him a bit of a challenge and that he was happy about the results and was looking forward to Tuscany in the middle of February for the Hell’s Gate competition.
