The renowned High Point Raceway of Mt. Morris, South Pennsylvania, was the venue for the fourth round of the 2012 AMA pro MX Championship last weekend. The High Point Raceway turned out to be an excellent host for the extravagant event. The tickets for that night were completely sold out weeks in advance and the stadium was completely jam-packed with thousands of dirt bike racing fans. Last Saturday night yielded yet another superb round in this season of outdoor dirt bike racing championship. It was the GEICO Honda racing team that was seen celebrating hard that particular night after their ace rider Eli Tomac registered a convincing victory in the 250cc lites class category at Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania. The rider from Cortez, Colorado, delivered a captivating performance by coming second in the Moto-I and first in the Moto-II race.
When the main event of the 250cc lites class category began, Justin Barcia of team GEICO Honda acquired an amazing start in the Moto-I race. He attained great speed too and was off to a flash. Barcia was also able to acquire the holeshot award. Barcia was entirely dominating the race track in the first Moto race and acquired the leading position in the race right from the start. He held onto his leading position for all the 16 laps and didn’t give any chance to any other rider to go past him. Barcia acquired the checkers in Moto-I positioning himself for his second consecutive victory in this category. His teammate, Eli Tomac, was also impressive throughout the race and came second in the Moto-I race.
Things changed a bit in the Moto-II race. When the second Moto race kicked off, this time it was Ken Roczen of team Red Bull KTM who acquired an awesome start in the match. His speed was great and acquired the holeshot in no time. Roczen immediately gained the lead in the race and sailed ahead. A fierce battle between Barcia and the point’s table leader, Blake Baggett was witnessed. Baggett was able to overtake Barcia for the second position but soon crashed out to lose his spot. Tomac then took full advantage of this and moved ahead. In the finishing moments of the race, Tomac made a great pass over Barcia to acquire the second position. Just prior to the finish, Roczen suffered an unfortunate crash which allowed Tomac to gain the lead in the race and score a win. Roczen finished second while Barcia came third in Moto-II.
With a 2-1 score, Tomac was adjudged the winner of the event. Barcia was awarded an overall second position with a 1-3 score while Roczen came third with a 5-2 score.
