The tenth Supercross race of the 2012 AMA Supercross series was held last weekend at Daytona, Florida. Yet again in the Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class Series, Justin Barcia of team GEICO Honda walked away with the victory. It’s his fourth consecutive win of this season and he still remains undefeated. Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett and Darryn Durham secured the second and third position respectively. Ken Roczen finished fourth while Blake Wharton came fifth in the race.
Last Saturday, the famous Daytona Beach of Florida was the host to the tenth match of this season of the AMA Supercross Series, a part of the FIM World Championship. Heavy rainfalls made the entire conditions at Daytona very hostile to race even for the potential title contenders. The race track was completely muddy and was creating a lot of troubles. However, all these unfriendly conditions could not stop Justin Barcia of GEICO Honda racing team to register his fourth consecutive victory in the Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class Series. He is still undefeated in this season and the way he is performing even in uncongenial circumstances, it seems as if his winning streak would not end that easily.
Although Barcia’s performance was impeccable, he was given a tough battle by Blake Baggett of team Pro Circuit Kawasaki. Baggett kept Barcia under pressure and was chasing him closely till the end. The contest was reduced to 12 laps because of the extreme muddy conditions. In spite of crashing during the initial laps, Baggett managed to acquire his second runners-up position in this season so far. The night was a memorable one for the Kawasaki racing team as two of their riders managed to appear at the race podium. First it was Baggett who appeared at the second position and the other was Baggett’s teammate Darryn Durham who pulled off an amazing performance to secure the third position.
Blake Wharton of team Suzuki had a great start and quickly acquired the Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot reward with Barcia following him up closely. In the first lap itself, Barcia swung right across Wharton in the inner portion of the first turning of the race track to gain the lead. Wharton was again overtaken by Baggett to acquire the second position. Wharton then rode at the third position for some time. Alex Martin of team K&N/FMF Honda, Ken Roczen of team Red Bull KTM and Jake Canada of team MotoConcepts Racing were the other three riders amongst the top six to finish the first lap.
In the upcoming laps, Ken Roczen took full advantage of the mistakes committed by Alex Martin to advance to the fourth position. Darryn Durham who was riding at the seventh spot, showed some great skills and amazing speed to advance forwards. He then overtook several riders to follow up Roczen closely. After some close moments between them, Durham finally overtook Roczen to claim the third position in the match. Ken Roczen finished fourth while Wharton came fifth in the race.
