Midweek Report: The 2012 Supercross Series Heads Towards New Orleans

The 14th match of the 2012 AMA Supercross series, a part of the FIM World Championship, will be played at the famous Mercedes-Benz Superdome of New Orleans, Louisiana this coming Saturday. With Ryan Villopoto already being mathematically proven to be the winner of this season, the match at New Orleans is expected to be another high voltage drama. The fight to secure the second and third position will be intense and Justin Barcia too will try to come back in the Supercross East Lites match.

After a cracker of a match at the famous Reliant Stadium, Houston last Saturday, the 2012 AMA Supercross series, a part of the FIM World Championship, now headed towards New Orleans, Louisiana for the next match of this season. The 14th round of the 2012 AMA Supercross series will be played at the popular Mercedes-Benz Superdome of New Orleans, Louisiana this coming Saturday. Similar to the matches held so far in this series, the next match at New Orleans is also expected to pull off some nail-biting moments. The event is expected to run houseful and the thousands of fans are definitely going to experience a great dirt bike race.

In the year 2008, the venue was devastated by the deadly hurricane Katrina. Just a year after the devastation, the AMA Supercross series visited the venue and was greeted by a handsome crowd turnout. On account of the damages being caused by the hurricane Katrina, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome was ignored from being a venue of the Supercross series on several occasions but later on the probe of numerous officials and prestigious riders, the venue was again declared available for the Supercross rounds.

Moving on from Houston where last weekend Ryan Villopoto scored his eighth victory of this season, the Supercross series now has only four rounds left in this season and New Orleans will host the fourth last round. Villopoto pulled off an impressive win at Houston and extended his lead in the supercross standings by 104 points over Ryan Dungey who resides at the second position. Moving into New Orleans, Villopoto now has 296 points under his belt while Dungey has 192 points. With only four matches left in this season, a maximum of only 100 points can be gained by any rider being the winner. With Villopoto leading by 104 points in the championship, mathematically it’s now impossible for any rider to restrict him from walking away with the championship title.

Ryan Villopoto, the defending champion, has been able to retain his title and will once again be crowned the champion of AMA Supercross series. However, the fans will miss the charismatic riding of Kevin Windham at New Orleans. Windham is out of the remaining four matches of this season because of some severe injuries which he incurred during the match at Houston. Barcia, who finished second at Houston, will definitely look to register a victory at New Orleans. The match will be telecasted LIVE exclusively on SPEED TV channel commencing from 7 P.M. this Saturday evening. Don’t forget to catch the action as it is going to be another cracker of a match.
