The opening match of the 2012 FMF Hangtown Motocross Classic was held last Saturday night at the famous Prairie City OHV Park stadium of Sacramento, California. The event saw the first rounds of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro MX Championship and the 2012 Women’s MX Championship getting down successfully. Justin Barcia of team GEICO Honda and Ashley Fiolek of Team Honda Muscle Milk had impressive runs in the Lucas Oil Pro MX Championship and Women’s MX Championship respectively with an overall second finishing in the races.
The first round of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro MX Championship was held last Saturday night as the famous Prairie City OHV Park stadium of Sacramento, California. Last weekend also saw the opening match of the 2012 Women’s Motocross Championship at the 2012 FMF Hangtown Motocross Classic, the year’s most awaited outdoor season of dirt bike racing. The stadium was completely sold out and had an electrifying atmosphere. The event yielded several nail-biting moments which were witnessed by thousands of fans.
Tommy Hahn made a comeback by joining the Honda Muscle Milk team and made his debut this season riding on the factory built CRF450R bike. He secured a convincing seventh position in the qualifying round and managed to finish eighth in the moto-I race. In the moto-II race too, Hahn gained an awesome start and looked convincing. But unfortunately, he suffered a thundering crash and came down hard. He then made a good recovery and finally managed to secure a respectable 13th spot in the moto-II race. In the moto-I race, Justin Brayton of team Honda Muscle Milk gained an average start but was pretty consistent until the last lap of the race. He then crashed in the final lap which compelled him to finish at the 24th spot. Brayton could fully recover back from his crash in the first moto and managed to finish at the 16th position in the moto-II race.
Meanwhile in the 250cc class racing event, Justin Barcia of team GEICO Honda acquired the holeshot award in both the moto races. Riding on his factory built CRF250R bike, Barcia finished third in the moto-I race and second in the moto-II race. He thus finished the event with an overall second position. His teammate, Eli Tomac had an impressive run in both the motos with a fourth spot finishing in moto-I and a 10th spot finishing in moto-II. Tomac overall secured the fifth position in the event. Wil Hahn of GEICO Honda rounded up the top ten riders with a seventh spot in moto-I and a 13th spot in moto-II.
In the 2012 Women’s MX Championship, Ashley Fiolek of team Honda Muscle Milk had an amazing start to her race. In the first moto race, she quickly acquired the holeshot award and rode with superb speed and consistency to walk away with the victory. In the second moto race, she again had an impressive start but had a small crash which compelled her to finish at the fifth spot. She had an overall second spot finishing in the event.
