The first round of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series conducted at the Angel stadium, Anaheim is over. Here is a quick recap of the season opener. Ryan Villopoto of team Kawasaki won the season opener quite comprehensibly with a 12 seconds lead against Chad Reed, who secured second spot. Cole Seely of team Honda was victorious at the Supercross Lites event.

As the round two of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross series is about to begin at Chase Field, Phoenix, the potential competitors have already started to prove themselves. During the first round at Anaheim, Ryan Villopoto of team Kawasaki looked undefeatable and won the first round of this season’s kickoff match in the Supercross Class. On the other hand, Cole Seely of Lucas Oil / Troy Lee Designs / Honda team was victorious at the Supercross Lites series during the initial phase of this season.

Ryan Villopoto was evidently the quickest rider on the dirt track during the entire round one. He was the only contender during the main play who laid down lap timings of below 1:01. Chad Reed of the TwoTwo Motorsports/Honda team was 12 seconds behind Ryan Villopoto when the checkered flag was waved. Reed secured second position. The struggle for the second spot was the best clash of the night. James Stewart of JGR/Toyota/Yamaha team had a mid-pack beginning and was compelled to make for his way up, while Ryan Villopoto, Chad Reed, and Ryan Dungey of Red Bull/KTM team started up front.

Things became interesting when James Stewart eventually made his way up to Ryan Dungey in the third spot. Both of them fought back and forth, and forced each other to commit numerous mistakes. But Chad Reed commited a mistake on his own and allowed Stewart and Dungey to nullify their gap. Just as James was gaining on Chad Reed, he committed yet another error and had a thundering crash as he landed on the top side of a tuff block. Dungey again gained the third spot, which he maintained till the end of the race. James then remounted and rode again, but wasn’t riding it well, and then went on to lose another two spots and finally finished the race at the sixth position behind Justin Brayton of team Honda and Jake Weimer of team Monster Energy Kawasaki.

In Supercross Lites event, Cole Seely had a dominating win at his hometown and in front of his own crowd. Tyla Rattray of team Kawasaki had rode excellently from his starting position behind Vince Friese of team MotoConcepts and swiftly earned his way to the front position. From there, Tyla Rattray maintained the leading position for many laps before losing it to Cole Seely.  Tyla Rattray secured a deserving and solid second position at the finishing.

As the second round of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross series kicks off at Phoenix, the frontrunners have already prepared themselves for the tight battle for the series title. Unfortunately, Josh Hill of H&H and Wil Hahn of Honda will miss out the event for serious injuries. The championship still looks very much open and will be full of more nail-biting moments at Chase Field, Phoenix. Catch the live action on SPEED channel.
