The sixth round of the 2012 AMA Supercross series, a part of the FIM World Championship was held last weekend at the Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA. Team Honda had a booming evening on the podium with Chad Reed of TwoTwo Motorsports and Cole Seely of Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda racing; both securing the second spot in the Supercross main event and the Lites classes respectively. Team Honda’s riders have definitely made it proud with the appearance of the riders on the podium at San Diego.
Justin Brayton, the team Honda Muscle Milk rider, showed great strength and quickly recovered from a crash in the racing track. He managed to qualify the sixth spot in the main event. After crashing badly during the second qualifying race, it was quite uncertain whether Justin would be able to get up and again start racing for the rest of the evening. He was then evaluated by the team of Asterisk medics and was allowed to have some amount of rest. Then Brayton made the decision to ride again. Brayton managed to finish at the fifth position. In the main event, Brayton managed to get a mid-pack beginning and then battled throughout the entire twenty laps to finish at the sixth spot.
Chad Reed, the TwoTwo Motorsports contender, made his fifth appearance in the podium of this season on account of his second-spot finishing. He had a not-so-awesome beginning in his heat race but was given another opportunity after the race got red flagged because of a crash. When the race restarted, Reed quickly grabbed the Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot and went on to deliver some great performance. In the mains, Reed started from the third spot but in no time secured the second spot. He then spent the remaining twenty laps charging from the front and gave a good fight to the first spot holder until the finishing lap.
Kevin Windham of team GEICO Honda had a happy ending to his evening after riding strongly throughout the evening. After delivering the fourth- fastest qualifying time of the evening, Kevin had a pretty good heat race and finished at the fifth spot. During the main event too, he had a mid-pack beginning but charged quickly to the fourth position before crashing in the whoops of the track during the finishing laps of the race. He could quickly recover from the crash, got up and started racing again to finally finish the race in the sixteenth position. Windham’s efforts were worth watching.
