The seventh race of the 2012 AMA Supercross series, a part of the FIM World Championship and the first race of the East Regional Supercross Lites Class series was held last Saturday i.e. on 18th February, 2012 at the Cowboys Stadium of Arlington, Texas. The match was witnessed by a full house stadium of about 54,000 fans. Ryan Villopoto of team Kawasaki made it a memorable night for his team as he registered his third consecutive AMA Supercross win in this season and by far his fourth win of this season of the SX championship. Villopoto’s win has added another 13 points to his total points tally.
The main event of the match kicked off when Jeff Alessi of team Moto concepts Suzuki acquired the Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot. Jeff Alessi was then speedily passed upon by Ryan Villopoto of team Kawasaki and Chad Reed of team TwoTwo Motorsports Honda, respectively. This is where Villopoto earned the leading position which he could maintain till the race end. James Stewart of team JGRMX/ Toyota/Yamaha finished the second lap at the second spot. In the next lap, Stewart badly crashed with Davi Millsaps, his teammate. The crashed made both Stewart and Davi Millsaps go behind several positions in the race.
While stalking Ryan Villopoto, Reed had a frightening crash. Reed could not recover from the crash and was not able to finish the race. On the 18th Lap, Villopoto’s teammate Jake Weimer could overtake Ryan Dungey of team Red Bull KTM to gain the second position. But on the final lap, Weimer again lost position to Dungey. The two riders then crossed each other several times but at last, Dungey managed to cross the checkers at the second position. Weimer came third and made his second podium appearance of this season.
“Tonight, the race track really very risky and was full of obstacles. In such cases, you need to be very smart and try to play it safely.” quoted Villopoto. “It was very disappointing for Chad Reed. I am really very excited after my win and look forward to the next match to be held next weekend at Atlanta.” The 2012 AMA Supercross series now moves on to Atlanta and the next race will be held at the Georgia Dome, Atlanta next Saturday. Check out your local listings to catch the action live next weekend from Atlanta. We expect another cracker of a match at there too.
