lol yes my 250 does smoke them in top speed but they almost match me in acceleration because their pipe has a much bigger opening then mine, but wut i ment was they are just better riders so i wanna know how to gain more confidence wen riding in mud puddles so i can keep up with them, plus their bikes do better in acceleration in the lower gears so i am looking at an FMF pipe, i recently posted a thread asking how to jet a dr-z250 with fmf pipe and a friend of my dads whose been around 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines for 20 years now has said hes never seen a 4 stroke engine that'd had to be re-jetted after buying an aftermarket pipe.

They do not have that much advantage over you. A pipe is only good for a couple hp.

yeh i geuss so,but neways i've been wondering if maybe my bike does need to be re-jetted because wen the bike is cold and ir un it,it has power and guts right wen i hit the throttle, but once its warmed up and running for awhile, right wen i hit the throttle theres nothing there for a quarter second then it comes, its weird, then wen its been running for awhile it has the tendancy to conk out wen i rev up then let off right away.

sounds like its running rich, and no bike HAS to be re-jetted after an air/fuel modification, its just that you will not notice any difference if you dont, maybe even worse than before.

you need to jet it when you get the pipe on, then if the idle is to high/low then just tighten to make it idle higher, and loosen to make it idle lower

idle just changes how much your carb stays open when you let off the throttle

the jets change how much fuel mixes with the air

The bog is usually due to stock accelerator pump. I think the DR-Z rocks an FCR carburetor. If so, this is a common thing. The stock accelerator pump doesn't react fast enough because it has an air bubble it has to compress instead of fuel. They sell an aftermarket cover. Also, the pilot jet may be too large or small. It can actually show the same symptoms either way.
