Trick Definitions

Name: Can can
How it’s done: The rider takes one foot off of the footpeg and raises his leg up and over the seat so that both legs are on the same side of the bike. Variations: No footed can can: The other foot comes of the peg and both legs are extended away from the bike. Note: The rider can land the jump with both legs on one side of the bike for added style and points.

Name: Whip
How it’s done: One of the more common tricks, the whip is a variation on the classic motocross “cross up”. Simply put, when a rider “whips” his bike, he literally guides contorts it so that it lays as flat as a pancake when in peak flight. The flatter the better. Though not as flashy as some of the other tricks, a good whip is duly noted by even the core riders in the supercross/motocross community.

Name: Cliff hanger
How it’s done: The rider literally leaves the bike, only to have his toes catch the underside of the handlebars. His hands are raised above his head in the “Rollercoaster” position.

Name: Cordova
How it’s done: hands on the grips, the rider brings his feet up underneath the bars, and presses his knees to his chest, then contorts his back so that he’s looking-upside down- out over the back fender. One of the more bizarre looking tricks on the circuit.

Name: Superman
How it’s done: hands on the grips, feet are removed from the footpegs and extended backwards-paralleled to the bike. Variations: Superman seat grab: Same as the aforementioned trick, only now the rider lets go with one hand and grabs the seat-extending his legs back even further. Superman seat grab w/Indian leg whip: same trick, only this time the rider does a massive scissors kick with his legs before bringing his feet back to the footpegs.

Name: Hart Attack
How it’s done: One of the more insane tricks you will see. The hart attack is done by placing one hand on the bars and the other on the seat and the rider does a hand stand in mid air! Invented by Carey Hart, the hart attack is truly one of the wildest tricks on the circuit.

Name: Bar hop
How it’s done: Both hands on the grips. Both feet are put between the riders arms and extended up over the front fender strait up. Variations: Indian bar hop: same as the aforementioned, except that the rider does a scissor kick.

Name: Saran wrap
How it’s done: both hands on the grips. The rider has one leg on the footpeg and the other is placed between the riders arms and then the rider lifts one arm and the leg is swung around the bars and placed back on the peg.

Name: No hander
How it’s done: The rider lets go of the handlebars in the air and extends them above his head. Variations: No hander lander: rider lands the jump with his hands off of the handlebars.

Name: Nac Nac
How it’s done: Rider takes one foot off of the footpeg and brings it over the rear fender and extends it out the other side.

Name: Lazy boy
How it’s done: The rider lets go of the handlebars In the air and lays on his back across the seat and extends his feet past the handlebars.

Tricks for the rest of us

Name: Leg Pinch
How it’s done: The rider stands alongside his bike, swings one leg over the seat and proceeds to tip his bike. When executed properly, the rider should be pinned to the ground is a position that requires a buddy to lift the bike off his leg.

Name: Super-Short Superman
How it's done: While looking backwards, over his shoulder, rider steers bike into any object higher than a footpeg but lower than a number plate. Bike comes to an immediate stop, rider flys through air exactly far enough to hit the hardest object available. Extra points if bike tips over after rider hits ground.

Name: Back Scratcher
How it's done: Clutch in. Throttle full. Clutch out. Bonus points if, while flat on his back, the bike flips in such a way, and strikes the rider in such a location, as to cause the rider to sing soprano.
