![]() | Is it ok not to use the clutch to change the gears on a dirt bike. I know that you have to use the clutch to take off in first, but someone told me that it would not hurt the bike if you didn't use the clutch after that. Like going from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th and so on. Thanks for your help.

| Administrator | this is terrible on the bike. this will cause excessive wear on the dog teeth(parts that lock gears together). after a while they become rounded over because they are basically forced into each other. after these supposed-to-be sharp corners get rounded enough that they begin to pop the bike out of gear while riding. please dont let anyone tell you otherwise. i have seen and heard many terrible stories about these problems. just use the clutch.

| Administrator | you may think everything is matched wr, but in reality even a 10rpm diff has to be soaked up somewhere. o and not using the clutch can actually cause more wear on the clutch basket fingers.

| Administrator | ya, thats way different though. that a huge smoking piece of metal WITH SYNCHROS!!! so you have to wear through synchros and if you are matching rpm's fairly closely synchros can last for a long time.
